Relaxation, fun, culture and much more. For the 2018 summer holidays, we have decided to advise you on two particular destinations, where the sea, history and well-being are intertwined, giving life to unique and unforgettable experiences. Find out what they are, along with all the attractions around these charming seaside resort.
1) Between the crystalline sea and the archaeological sites of Sicily
Famous all over the world for its crystal-clear sea and its wonderful beaches, it also presents the splendor of Isola Bella, named the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea” thanks to the beauty of the luxuriant nature and its characteristic position, which connects it to the coast through a very little isthmus of sand. In addition to the beautiful beaches, Taormina is full of archaeological sites, traces of all the populations who lived here, such as the Greek Theater of Hellenic derivation. You can take a pleasant walk through the historic center and especially to the shops of Corso Umberto I, and then enjoy the breathtaking view from Piazza IX Aprile, a balcony overlooking the sea. Taormina also offers interesting excursions in its surroundings, such as the Alcantara Gorges and its river park, and the numerous medieval villages overlooking the sea.
This beautiful seaside resort lies a few kilometers from Taormina, whose name comes from the Greek island of Naxos, because the inhabitants of this area founded here the first Greek colony in Sicily. Rich in archaeological remains of Greek, Roman and Norman origin, today Giardini Naxos is a popular destination for summer holidays thanks to the long stretches of sand and the clear sea in the central area of the town, in addition to the beaches just outside the city that are wild and offer natural shows like isolated coves and caves to visit.
2) From luxury to the variety of natural landscapes of Versilia
FORTE DEI MARMI
Known for its city center embellished with high fashion boutiques, restaurants and luxury hotels, Forte dei Marmi has a coast characterized by wide private beaches that offer the best services. From here, you can take the boat that leads to the daily tour of the beautiful Cinque Terre, or visit the famous Carrara Marble Quarries or, for lovers of excursions and culture, we recommend a walk through the lush nature and the characteristic villages of the Apuan Alps.
LIDO DI CAMAIORE
A few steps from Forte dei Marmi and adjacent to Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore is a seaside resort known for its large sandy stretches and for its promenade full of well-known shops and restaurants; it hosts the Carnival citadel, which is the laboratory where the majestic floats of the Viareggio Carnival are produced. An out-of-the-way excursion, that is worth doing, leads to the village of Torre del Lago Puccini, which takes its name from Giacomo Puccini, an internationally renowned Italian composer and opera, who had his residence here, beautiful to visit thanks to the suggestive position on Lake Massaciuccoli which is located close to the coast. This area is surrounded by the Migliarino Massaciuccoli Nature Reserve which stretches along the coast and has a wide variety of flora and fauna in it.
