Together with Milan (which we have already talked about here), among the most cherished Italian cities for shopping, one certainly finds Rome. Between one visit and another in the discovery of the magnificent monuments of the city, it can be real pleasure to treat yourself to some shopping.
Among the most famous areas to make purchases in the Capital is without a doubt the so-called area of the “Tridente” (Trident) with the extremely famous via dei Condotti, via Borgognona, via Frattina and the entire zone adjacent to piazza di Spagna, constellated by famous jewellery stores and the boutiques of the most important Italian and international designers. Indeed, here one finds the most exclusive boutiques of Rome such as Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Ermanno Scervino, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Chanel, Tiffany, Bulgari and many other brands.
In actuality, all the roads around via dei Condotti and piazza di Spagna are dedicated to high fashion, including the beautiful via del Babbuino that leads up to piazza del Popolo. The major labels of high fashion have their flagship stores here and, even for those who don’t want to make purchases, taking a walk along these splendid roads, window-shopping, admiring the monuments and savouring a coffee in one of the most antique Roman cafés such as Caffè Greco is truly a unique experience.
For those who wish to make more modest purchases, Via del Corso and the nearby shopping centre Galleria “Alberto Sordi”, also known as “Galleria Colonna”, feature shops of all kinds that are able to satisfy the widest variety of tastes. Here one finds many shops with a more casual and sporty appeal, as well as chain stores of Italian and international fashion labels.
Via del Boschetto, instead, in the splendid rione Monti has become over the years the must visit place for those who love vintage. Among streets of the quarter, there are small shops where you can always find something really original. Every Sunday there is the weekly appointment with a wonderful street market featuring vintage items on sale.
Not to be missed either are the shops in the zone of Prati, close to Saint Peter’s Basilica, among the famed via Cola di Rienzo and via Ottaviano and in the quarter of San Giovanni, along via Appia Nuova, near the magnificent Basilica di San Giovanni. In these streets small shops and major international chain stores are side by side.
