Milano Marathon 2018

Milano Marathon 2018

After the record edition of 2017, the EA7 Emporio Armani Milano Marathon, now in its eighteenth edition, returns on Sunday, April 8th, 2018.

The Milan Marathon route, completely redesigned in 2015 and finished with targeted modifications year after year, is definitely one of the strengths of the Milan race. A track with departure and arrival in the center of Milan; it’s fascinating because it crosses both the historic downtown and contemporary areas, and it’s flowing thanks to long straight sections and a very small overall height difference. The time of Edwin Koech, the winner last April in 2h 07’13 ” – best performance ever achieved on Italian soil – confirms the speed characteristics of the route.

The route

A beautiful panorama between historical and modern will be the background to the runners. After the shot, the runners will head towards Porta Nuova area, with its futuristic skyscrapers, then skim the Central Station and then enter the heart of the city, with the passage in Piazza Duomo and Piazza della Scala. Passing alongside Castello Sforzesco and Triennale, the race will reach the area of City Life, with the Isozaki tower, the tallest skyscraper in Italy. From here it will point to the north-west, passing the area of the former Fiera di Amendola and bypassing the Monte Stella (the “mountain” dear to Milan’s runners) and then bypassing the Hippodrome and the San Siro Stadium. The outermost part of the route will wind up in the green of Trenno’s Park up to Molino Dorino, from where you will return to the center with the long straight of Gallaratese Street. Once the redeveloped area of the Portello in past, the majestic route of Corso Sempione will guide the marathon runners towards the Arc of Peace and Sempione Park, which will be crossed with a short and suggestive passage on the dirt of Piazza del Cannone, under the walls of Sforzesco Castle. From here to the finish line there are only 2 kilometers, running along the circle of the Bastions, from Porta Volta to Monte Santo Street, up to Porta Venezia.
